So there I was reading a UT3 review...

Postby Sodaman » Thu Nov 22, 2007 10:58 pm

When I happened upon a forum post at the end. Reading it, I thought to myself, "This guy knows what he's talking about, and I totally agree." So at the end, it showed who wrote it. Who wrote it? -ZS- Legend.

Now if only I had it/my PC could play it. I'm sad. :(

I just figured the 2k3/2k4 fan boys needed some help understanding what it was exactly that made Epic go the direction they did with UT3. They wanted to bring players back rather than push more away. I think the game with a Zark would absolutely rock ass. Especially with a translocator playin a little capture the flag.

This is from the boards. You can also see it in the comments section of the UT3 review on the 3 page of them. Go to IGN, click on PC Games up top and then the UT3 review is still current as of this post as the first article to come up on the little article preview slider thingy.

Enjoy.

Good Review Legend.

I played the demo, and liked the game. I take it as a good sign that I want to fire just the demo back up to see what I can find. In reading the posts on that forum, I may have found the major disagreement. I personally like fantasy/scifi stuff. I don't want to be a cop, I have no dreams of shooting people for real, and I don't really like the military. In other words, I don't want a realistic game. Other people, however, do. You can see it in our clan. It seems like most of ZS likes realism, such as BF2 and CoD4, but I like TF2 and UT3. This is all fine and good, but I think that's what those posts were mostly about. Personal taste and what someone looks for in a game.

I like what may come from this game. The graphics and level design are really good. If the character types and models are a little brighter, especially when teams are involved, I would be most pleased.

Well the brightness issue will probably be resolved quickly if not already. In 2K4 I think most of the Team Death Match Ladders as well as the Free for All ladders used a mod that actually let the player choose what color the enemy team as well as his own would be. All the textures on the character models were a bright shade of what ever color the user wanted with the exception of the gun and head. You could also force specific character models in the mod similarly to being able to force default models in 99.

My brothers colors of choice for the team colors I believe was light yellow for friendlies while the other team had a bright pink/red. He said he chose those colors because he felt like he was able to identify them slightly faster than other colors. Also the mod on the servers he played on had shared/reflect team damage turned on. Something I'd love to see happen in CoD4. It would drastically reduce the nade spamming. And as for the character model he had forced was the biggest model in the game.

Hopefully or rather I more expect a mod like this to surface for UT3 quickly. I still think the game has what it takes to bring most of us back with a proper Zark and a good reiteration of capture the flag. I also think it would be cool if someone would get rid of the double jump and just make it one big jump. I do like the double jump in to a dodge off the wall. There's one map in the demo where this is actually useful to use as a short cut to get to a hallway from the shieldbelt platform. Although I do like the way the second jump of the double jump activates the jump boots in UT3. The game definitely has some serious mod potential just like 99 and 2k4 did/do.

Yea I can totally agree with that. There's not much difference in character design between the 2 games from what I've seen as far as men go. Since there was really only one woman in GoW I saw I'm not sure how they handled other female characters.

Just got new video card installed so I could give it a run. Feels more like UT99 than I thought it would (notable exception being the translocator - but Sniff still seems to be whoring it out as well as ever). Some Zark servers running out there already. I can't believe they haven't improved the join game feature as of yet. No favorites.

Yea man, its a work in process.

And the new patch doesnt fix half of it. But on the bright side it will play better and the list of things to fix is smaller. :?
